HL2-EP2 crashing at Freeman Pontifex?

This is the first time I have ever had a problem ... I have installed and
played every HL and HL2 game, mod, add-on, etc. and have never had a
problem.

HL2-EP2 - I am in Freeman Pontifex, where I just came off the fork lift,
went through the AC ducts, jumped down ... and now jumped down in the
opening to exit a gate. When I walk through - I get memory errors and the
game crashes.

I have a screen shot - but I cannot attach to non-binary group.

"The instruction at '0x10ca8f3f' referenced memory at '0x0e46f3c0' The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I have updated my video drivers (ATI Radeon 9600), I have 2 GB ram, playing
on a 3 GHz, P4 with hyperthreading, on XP Pro.

Any Ideas?

It sounds like you could have an error in one of your .GCF files. Try
right-clicking on HL2:Ep2 and opening the 'Properties' window. If you
choose the 'Local files' tab along the top, you'll see a button labelled
'Verify integrity of game cache'. Run this (it'll take a while, maybe
10-20 minutes), and, see whether this helps.

Thx - I tried that as well as all the other things recommended on the Steam
support web site - no luck.

I even tried throwing a barrel down and pushing it through first
(successfully) before I walk through to see if it makes a difference. It
did not - It simply does not like me walking through. I think I will try
turning on cheats, and going noclip mode to see if that lets me get over
this hump.

As per Ant's post above, I can walk backwards through the door, but if I
turn around or step into the water backwards - it crashes ....

Could be a stick of ram going bad..check with memtest..Any errors =
bad ram. If you have two sticks , test each one individually.

Thanks - but looking through the support forums - it seems to be a common or
known issue. For me - it's happening at the same spot each time - either
using a saved game, or a new game ... god mode on and off, no clip mode on
and off ....

Yeah, there are a lot of people having the exact same crash at several
of the exact same points in HL2 since the latest patch. It looks like
Valve broke something again. Hopefully they fix it soon; I bought the
Orange Box on Black Friday and haven't been able to get more than 10
minutes into HL2 Ep. 2.

I opened a ticket with Steam - they have provided a fix. Next time you
start Steam / HL2-EP2 - it will auto update.

Fix worked!!
